Shanah tovah / Happy New Year! We hope you'll join us to celebrate the High Holidays, beginning on Sept 11. Please RSVP by September 1.

With so much pain, suffering and precarity in the world, we are so looking forward to the utter blessing of being together in beloved community to welcome in 5787. Our High Holiday services are open to all, regardless of membership status at T'chiyah.

Services will take place in-person at T'chiyah (housed within First United Methodist Church, 22331 Woodward Ave, Ferndale) unless otherwise noted. Our Rosh Hashanah Day 1 and Yom Kippur services (but not workshops) will be livestreamed.

Attendees are encouraged to mask, if masking doesn't pose an accessibility limitation or a barrier to participation in the service. Masks will be available at the door. If you are experiencing symptoms of respiratory illness, please stay home and join us via livestream – even if you are currently testing negative for COVID.

Please register all of your attendees so that we can maintain a safe and comfortable environment for all. Our security and safety team will use this registration list at event check-in.

SCHEDULE:

Friday, Sept 11 – Erev Rosh Hashanah (No service. We will be coordinating home-hosted Erev RH dinners.)

Saturday, Sept 12 – Rosh Hashanah Day 1. Service from 9:30 AM - 1 PM. Catered lunch to follow, ~1 - 3 PM.

Sunday, Sept 13 – Rosh Hashanah Day 2. "Reconstructed service" (singing, workshops, learning) 9 AM - 1 PM
– 3 PM: Tashlich at Milliken State Park with T'chiyah, Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue & Reconstructionist Congregation of Detroit.

Sunday, Sept 20 – Erev Yom Kippur / Kol Nidre. Service runs from 7 - 9 PM.

Monday, Sept 21 – Yom Kippur. Morning Service: 9 AM - 1 PM. Afternoon Workshops: 4:00 - 6:00 PM. Ne'ilah: 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Break-fast potluck to follow.

Childcare will be provided for all services that take place at FUMC (i.e. everything except Tashlich). Children's programming is being organized for Rosh Hashanah Day 1 and Yom Kippur Day. Please reach out to jake@tchiyah.org with any questions.

Just four days after Yom Kippur comes Sukkot! Plan to join us on Friday, Sept 25 for a special Shabbat in the Sukkah, hosted by Huckleberry Gardens (Shuffy & Morgan's home) in Detroit.

Then, after Sukkot comes Simchat Torah on the evening of Saturday, October 3. Stay tuned for more information about what we're doing for these holidays!

Volunteering

Accessibility

Here are a few notes regarding the accessibility of our space.

– Services will feature musical instruments, microphone / amplification, and an electronic projector to show page numbers.
– T'chiyah is in wheelchair-accessible building. Accessing our venue requires climbing one flight of stairs (up) or using an elevator.
– We ask all to please refrain from wearing fragrances or perfumes to support attendees with chemical sensitivities.

In addition, a short Children's Service (tailored for ages 3 - 8, though all are welcome) will take place during Rosh Hashanah Day 1 and Yom Kippur Morning services.
